Johnny and Josy's new baby!

My brother Johnny and his wife Josy are having a baby in January. We are very excited to have a cousin on my side! They sent out cute announcements to tell everyone what they are having and we got ours in the mail today...Here are the kids opening the letter and their reactions.

First Grade!

Devin started first grade Monday. Last year, Kindergarten was only 2 1/2 hours, so I've been curious so see what he thinks about being in school all day. The week before school started he kept asking me things like "Are you going to miss me?" "What are you going to do when I am gone?" and hundreds of other questions (most of them about eating lunch at the school).

We met his teacher Friday. Everyone who I have talked to who has had her in previous years really likes her. And she seems very positive. I started to tell her about all my concerns and she just made me feel like this was going to be a great year.

Jared took him the first day. He was just so excited. He had all his clothes perfectly lined up on the couch with his backpack and lunchbox ready to go. He woke up before me and by the time I got downstairs he was dressed and trying to leave. We ate breakfast and then packed his lunch (He loves packing his lunch, although he insists on bringing lunchables. I try to explain to him that I could put the same thing together for about a tenth of the price. I still bought a few for the first week, because he was just so darn excited.)

A few pictures before he left.

It was a quiet day that's for sure. No fighting. I got a lot done. And Addie and I got some one-on-one time when Lyla napped.

I picked him up and asked about a million questions. I wanted to know everything about his day. I was anxious all day, worrying about the smallest things (will he listen to his teacher, will the kids be nice to him, will he have someone to sit by at lunch, will he be able to open his lunchable??) He seemed to have a good day.
We celebrated by going to Jamba Juice.
His favorites.
The songs crack me up. He has his own playlist on itunes and he listens to them over and over.

And last year, for fun.

The rest of San Diego

Friday we did quite a few things around San Diego. We first stopped at the temple. The San Diego temple is stunning.

This is what I got when I told them I wanted one of all three.
About 5 minutes after I took these, poor Adalynn was stung by a bee, which was our cue to leave.

Next stop, the Mormon Battalion. I was very impressed by how hands on and interesting it was. They have different rooms where they show videos to explain the story of the Mormon Battalion. They dressed Devin up in the clothes similar to the the clothes the soldiers would have worn and let him hold a gun--it was cute. Then after the tour, you get an old time photo taken and printed and you can go outside and pan for gold, among other things. Devin and Adalynn really enjoyed that.
If you want to read the story of the Mormon Battalion here it is
.

Okay, Jared's family. Who does this girl totally look like???

After getting lunch we went swimming at our hotel, then later, headed to La Jolla to play on the beaches there. We had been waiting for Josh to get to San Diego all day (he hit awful traffic so instead of getting there at noon he met us at about 5). We were all pretty happy to see him!
I loved this beach. So pretty, and not quite as smelly as Coronado. The water was also much warmer than Coronado.

Happy baby!
After the beach we had dinner at a really good Mexican restaurant that was featured on Diners Drive ins and Dives. We went swimming again with Josh. Then we had a little sleep over with Josh..poor guy had to share a bed with Devin and Adalynn. But it took him so long to get there and he didn't want to just turn back around and go home, so he stayed with us.

The next morning, on his way home.

Legoland

Friday we took the kids to Legoland. Like I said previously, we didn't tell them we were going beforehand. When we were pulling up Devin kept saying things like, "Hey there is a sign to Legoland." He really didn't figure it out, so we just told him as we were parking--he was excited, of course. Adalynn was indifferent.

So, I took a lot of pictures. And I'm posting a lot. Pretty cool what they can make with legos.

This was Adventure Land or as Devin called it "Indiana Jones land." Most of the rides in the park were for younger kids...meaning my kids loved them, but a 10 or 11 year old would probably find many of them too kiddy.

Next we went to Castle Hill. There was a Dragon roller coaster the kids liked, and Adalynn really loved the horse ride.
Devin pretending to be an Egyptian.

The highlight for Adalynn was seeing a Princess.

Devin was very excited to see Star Wars land. I think he was a little disappointed there weren't any rides, only figures and scenes from the different movies. Still pretty cool though.

I'm glad I took this one with Addie so you can see how large this building was.
They had a huge Vegas area with a lot of the casinos from the strip. The kids totally recognized many of the the buildings. I really should have taken these with the kids in them so you could see how large they were.
Tropicana
Excalibur.
Any time we drive past this in real life, Adalynn tells us all it is the princess castle. And we have also been swimming there with my sister so they also call it Jen's hotel.

At this point I put the camera away! We checked out the water park, which was mediocre, especially after going to Sun Splash. It was pretty hot that day, so the water felt great. One thing I really liked was, in the lazy river, you could build legos on your tube. Cute detail, I thought--I grabbed this pictures from online so you could see what I am talking about.
And that was the first day at Legoland.

The rest of these were taken when we went back Sunday. We had a two day park hopper pass, and I wasn't too excited about going two days back to back. Don't get me wrong, it was fun, but it was tricky with Lyla. She was only able to go on one ride so one of us was always sitting out with her. I also didn't want to go back Saturday when it was supposed to be busy.

Another Princess! Addie ran right over and wanted a picture.

How cute is Devin? He loves roller coasters and has no fear.

Our last stop was where you could build your own car and race them. They both loved this.
And that was Legoland!
